Closer to Him

Have you ever listened to a sermon or deeply studied your Bible, and suddenly come to a new understanding? Become inspired or a little wiser? It happens sister, and I’m here for it. This page is where I share my epiphany moments with you, in the hopes that you’ll share yours with me too.

Question: Do Angels have free will? I know they are capable of sin, because I know of fallen angels, but what is their capacity for sin? Can they be redeemed?

My husband and I are studying the Book of Job, and we came upon chapter 4, where Eliphaz is attempting to console Job. He speaks of a secret message he received in verse 12, that whispered “can a mortal be more righteous than God? Can even a strong man be more pure than his Maker? If God places no trust in his servants, if he charges his angels with error, how much more those who live in houses of clay, whose foundations are in the dust…Are not the cords of their tent pulled up, so that they die without wisdom?”

My husband and I discussed the differences between Angels and humans. I did not know if Angels had free will or not. We found in our study that Angels do have free will, however their nature is for righteousness. Humans were created in the image of God, but have been corrupted by a sinful human nature. Angels are righteous by nature, and are privy to a closer state of wisdom to God than humans are. Humans overcome their sinful nature to be closer to God and walk in righteousness, however fallen Angels have overcome their righteous nature to commit sin. This is why no fallen Angel has returned to Heaven for redemption.
