Welcome to Driving Barefoot! This is a place where the thoughts of a twenty-something woman are reconciled with a faith journey. When you’re in the driver’s seat, you are in control. You can go anywhere, as fast as you want. You are also responsible to those around you. If you’re driving barefoot, you are most likely going to (or coming from) somewhere really fun.
We are in the driver’s seat of our lives and the way I see it, or vehicle is our faith. Sometimes, it’s a strong and powerful vehicle that can take us off the beaten path with confidence. Sometimes it breaks down and needs repairing. Sometimes we’re on two wheels, and sometimes eighteen. God is the mechanic of our faith – giving us all we need to get back on the road. He provides the fuel of His love and where we take our vehicle is up to us.
Driving Barefoot is about practical faith in the day to day life of a young woman. What does faith look like when we take it to work, watch the news, or manage our money? How do we know when we are following God’s path? I am no expert on faith, but I am living this life with you and I hope that our stories can relate to each other.
God, Family, Country (About Me)

Hey! I’m Emily.
I thought a lot about starting this blog before I did. I wondered if anyone would read it, much less find what they need in it. I watched the world around me fall farther and farther away from God’s love, and fall into a trap of hatred and self-pity. I decided that me living my faith was not enough. Young women go through a lot of growing pains, and sometimes a sisterhood is enough to know that you are not alone. Now that I’m facing the backend of my twenties, maybe I can help. I’ve succeeded and failed, felt heartbreak and true love, worked harder than I should have, and made a lot of memories.
I’m married to the love of my life, and I am a very happy dog mom. I was a Special Education Teacher for nine years, specializing in Autism and Severe/ Profound Disabilities. I am very proud to serve as a Reservist in the military. I went to a Community College in Virginia, and then to Liberty University for my Bachelors degree. Then I went to Johns Hopkins University for my Masters, and most recently found myself transplanted to The University of Oklahoma (Boomer Sooner!). I am currently going through a career change of my own, and leaning on my faith to guide my path. I don’t have it all figured out, but I am blessed enough to carry with me that no matter what title or credential goes behind my name, Wife, Daughter, Sister, and Friend will always be the most important.
